A career as a Forensic Investigator/Forensic Engineer is a very challenging and specialised role but is also very rewarding. We are always on the lookout for those that possess the necessary skills, expertise and characteristics to join our team.

We are looking for a specific set of skills in a Materials Scientist/Engineer to undertake forensic investigations of a wide range of incident types, to identify why an incident occurred, by following through an investigation from start to finish.  Our clients include Insurers, Solicitors, Loss Adjusters and private clients.  It will be a challenging and varied role where the right candidate will need to be comfortable carrying out site inspections, gathering evidence, writing technical reports for our clients and potentially giving evidence in court as an Expert Witness. 

This is not a routine laboratory career or a desk-based position. It is a unique and very rewarding profession where no two days are the same. It requires both the technical skills and focus to get the job done and an attention to detail to ensure every stage is completed fully, maintaining our standards of professionalism.

There will be the opportunity to investigate a wide range of incidents and accidents involving engineering failures of components across a broad spectrum of applications, materials and a variety of failure modes. To carry out the role successfully, alongside the technical knowledge and expertise, you will need the ability to apply your engineering skills practically and methodically. There will be comprehensive training involved.

We have a laboratory on site so you will get the opportunity to examine and analyse the failed components in- house.

The ideal applicant will have/be: 

  • A degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy or related discipline 

  • Minimum 2 years industry experience 

  • Experience of technical report writing 

  • Self-motivated and have the ability to work under pressure 

  • Practical experience of undertaking failure analysis investigations and identifying and understanding engineering component failures 

  • Knowledge/Experience of optical and electron microscopy 

  • Be prepared to work unpredictable hours and travel as and when required in order to meet the requirements of a case, which may include Court imposed deadlines

  • A strong attention to detail
